Who We Are
We are a team of four: two humans and two hounds.
The Houndels — Saska and Juni —
are littermate basset hounds.They play bite.
They bite play.They nap hard.
They train harder.They work as companions.
Who We'll Be Working With
We’ll be working alongside people living with health problems who:• experience body-related discomfort,
• may sometimes need accommodations to participate in activities, and
• want to interact with dogs.Our sessions are designed around what you want to do, what you can do, and what we can facilitate together.The Houndels aren't here to ask you to keep up. They meet you where you are — sometimes slowly, sometimes sideways, and occasionally with a very basset-like lack of urgency.
What They Do
They are learning new roles.
They are learning cued tasks.As Therapeutic Carework Companions, they will join some sessions, accompanying people as they move, stretch, settle, or rest.A few of the interactions they participate in include:
• puppyssage — they plop into position for pets.
• ground me — they lean their weight into you so you can feel steady on your feet.
• fickle fetch — they chase toys, then drop them in random spots so you stretch and reach.
• tug / tug‑tug — they match your pull, or tug harder and let go, so you can feel the difference.These cued tasks aren’t tricks — they’re ways of being with you.Saska and Juni are:
• calm
• friendly
• responsive
• practiced at meeting people
• and… companions with bassetude.Their bassetude is their signature way of being — a:
• stubborn presence that sometimes stumbles
• sideways companionship that sometimes stinks
• slow participation that sometimes stares
• silly caprice that sometimes stays
Why They Matter
They’re not mascots — they’re part of the carework.Their basset bodies bring something different to every session:
• weight that steadies,
• movement that nudges,
• stretches that invite,
• stillness that holds.But they don’t do the work alone.
They do it with you — through cues, games, and shared activity.Their bassetude means the work can be stubborn, sideways, slow, or silly.That’s the point.
Activity doesn’t have to look perfect.
It has to be real.
